Traditional Boat Racing Festival On Kien Giang River

The traditional swimming and boat racing festival on Kien Giang River, Le Thuy District, is a cultural activity held annually to arouse national unity and the martial spirit of General Vo Nguyen Giap’s homeland. The swimming festival held to pray for good rain and good harvest to test the strength of boys and girls preparing to overcome the stormy season, and conquering nature. This festival has long become a traditional cultural activity of Le Thuy people on National Day.

Cau Ngu Festival

Intangible heritage at national level

  • Recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage event, Cau Ngu Festival is an indispensable activity of the people of Quang Binh coastal areas. It is one of the folklore festivals, beliefs of Quang Binh residents are passed down from generation to generation. This activity expresses the thought and desires of the people for a bountiful sea season, bringing good luck and health to residents.
  • The Cau Ngu in Canh Duong commune, Quang Trach district, takes place on the 14th and 15th day of the 11th lunar month.
  • The Ly Hoa village fishing festival takes place at the village communal house on the 15th day of the sixth lunar month.
  • Hai Ninh fishing festival (Quang Ninh district, Quang Binh province) is held on National Independence Day 2/9.
  • Bao Ninh fishing festival (Dong Hoi city) is held on three days: 14, 15, 16 of the 4th lunar month. It is the biggest festival of Dong Hoi fishermen.

Breaking Drum Festival of the Ma Coong

Drum making village is one of the unique gatherings of the province, imbued with the culture of the Ma Coong people.

This festival is held every year on January 16 with exciting activities such as: praying to heaven and earth for favorable rain and windy season, lush trees, and prosperous life. People gather to eat and drink; couples also have the opportunity to date and fall in love.
