On the afternoon of July 21, 2023, the People’s Committee of Quang Binh Province organized a conference to review the midterm implementation of Action Program No. 01-Ctr dated December 9, 2020 of the Provincial Party Committee on developing tourism as a spearhead economic sector for the period 2021 – 2025.
In his opening speech at the conference, Mr. Tran Thang, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Quang Binh Province affirmed that Program No. 01-CTr/TU and Plan No. 117/KH-UBND have set forth fundamental objectives, tasks, and specific solutions to successfully implement the resolutions of the 17th Provincial Party Congress for the term 2020 – 2025, aiming to “truly develop tourism into a spearhead economic sector” and become one of the province’s four major breakthroughs throughout the term, specifically:
- Building and positioning the Quang Binh tourism brand associated with prominent, unique images that reflect the local identity.
- Continuously affirming Quang Binh as a top destination in Vietnam and the leading adventure hub in Southeast Asia.
- By 2025, the tourism industry’s contribution to the province’s GRDP growth rate will reach 10-12%.
During the period 2021 – 2023, the implementation of Program No. 01 and Plan No. 117 took place in a special context heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which significantly impacted the economy, society, and tourism. However, with the leadership and guidance of the Provincial Party Committee, the People’s Council, and the People’s Committee, as well as the cooperation of all levels, sectors, and the efforts of businesses, Quang Binh tourism achieved remarkable results:
- The total number of tourists to Quang Binh in 2022 reached over 2.1 million, an increase of 3.7 times compared to the same period in 2021, including over 33,700 international visitors, a 5.9-fold increase compared to the same period in 2021. The total revenue from tourists exceeded 2,400 billion VND, a 3.87-fold increase compared to the same period in 2021.
- In the first 6 months of 2023, the total number of tourists reached nearly 2 million, a 3.6-fold increase compared to the same period in 2022, including over 62,000 international visitors, an 8.28-fold increase compared to the same period in 2022. The total revenue from tourists reached over 2,267 billion VND, a 3.6-fold increase compared to the same period in 2022.
At the conference, representatives from various departments, localities, and businesses proposed some practical recommendations to supplement the tasks and directives of the Provincial Party Committee and the People’s Committee in the coming time to achieve the objectives and targets of Program No. 01 and successfully implement the resolutions of the 17th Provincial Party Congress on developing tourism into a key economic sector of the province.
